The two main contributors to global warming in cities are transportations and buildings. A solution to greatly reduce this problem is building Cool Cities. However I think it’s almost impossible to say that by 2050, most people will live in them. In this essay I will write about the reasons why I think it is impossible.

Cool cities is a great idea, however it’s limited to a small number of residents. Masdar city for example can contain about 50 thousand inhabitants only (Cheung). Currently the population growth is estimated to reach 8-12 billion before the end of the 21st century (Population Growth over Human History). That means we will need a huge number of cool cities to contain all the people. That brings the second issue that makes me believe it’s impossible. Masdar costs $22 Billion. There are many poor countries in the world that can’t handle that cost unless the whole world joins together to solve this problem.

There is another issue which is the lifestyle. It is very hard to change people’s habits of living. For example people in the UAE are mostly made of young generation who are used to drive 4 wheel cars which consumes a lot of fuel. They are also used to consume a lot of electricity all the time for air conditioning and many other things.
In conclusion, I believe it’s impossible for everyone to live in cool cities by 2050. I think it will be more useful to spend the money on ways to develop environment friendly technology to replace what is used now and both rich and poor countries can use instead of spending it on something that is semi-impossible to build for many countries in the world.
